WLax: Vermont Signs Four Recruits for 2005-2006

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women’s lacrosse program has received commitments from four recruits.

Sarah DeStefano (Eliot, Maine), Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario), Jessie Peksa (Salisbury, Md.) and Tori Wasson (Lake Forest, Ill.) have all signed National Letters of Intent to continue their careers at UVM. First year head coach Jen Johnson made the announcement today. (read more)

14,000 Watch Swarm Fall to Mammoth in Debut

John Desko Named '06 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Coach

BALTIMORE - US Lacrosse has announced that John Desko, head coach at Syracuse University, has been appointed head coach for the 2006 U.S. Men's National Team. The U.S. will compete in the 2006 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship in Canada. (read more)

UMBC's Zimmerman to Develop Sport in Argentina

Widely recognized as one of this nation’s premier teachers of the sport of lacrosse, UMBC Head Lacrosse Coach Don Zimmerman will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina to assist in the development of the game in that South American country. Coach Zimmerman departs from Baltimore on Sunday, December 12th and will return after eight days in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, December 20. (read more)

St. Andrews Men's Lacrosse Early Signees

LAURINBURG, NC—St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s lacrosse coach Michael Lawson has announced that five student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play lacrosse and study at SAPC starting in the fall of 2005. The future Knights include goalkeeper Nathan Hull, defenders John Osterritter, T.J. Dacey and Chris Nagle and attackman Maxim Kalkstein. (read more)

USL Names Youth Lacrosse Award Winners

BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse and its Youth Council will honor seven individuals from throughout the nation for their service to youth lacrosse, as announced today by Jennifer Allen, director of programs for US Lacrosse. The group will be honored at the fourth annual US Lacrosse Youth Council Awards Breakfast during the US Lacrosse National Convention on Jan. 15, 2005 in Philadelphia. (read more)

Princeton, GWLL Foes Highlight Butler's Schedule

Butler lacrosse coach Stan Ross announced the Bulldogs' schedule for his inaugural season in Indianapolis today (Dec. 3), highlighted by a trip to Princeton and a tough league slate. The schedule includes five games on the Butler campus and match-ups against six teams that at least received votes in last season's final Geico/STX Coaches Poll. (read more)

WLax: 34 Players Advance in World Cup Tryouts

BALTIMORE - Sue Stahl, coach of the United States Women's Lacrosse Team, has announced that 34 players have advanced to the final round of tryouts for the U.S. Team for the 2005 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations World Cup. DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's lacrosse program signed three prospective student-athletes to national letters of intent during the fall signing period. Seven Standouts Commit to Nittany Lions for 2006

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., December 1, 2004 - The Penn State men's lacrosse team has announced Wednesday that seven prominent high school lacrosse players have committed to the Nittany Lions for the early signing period. The Nittany Lions will be looking to replace eight seniors who will be graduating at the end of the spring. (read more)

Carolina Tapped to Play in Inaugural "First Four"

CARSON, CALIF. ­­ The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will join Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Syracuse in the inaugural event of The First Four to be contested at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California on March 12. An all-day lacrosse event that will feature four high school games and three college games, The First Four will be highlighted by games between traditional NCAA Division I powers North Carolina and Notre Dame at 5 p.m. PST and Syracuse and Georgetown at 7:30 p.m. PST. Buckeyes Announce 2005 MLax Schedule

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Joe Breschi, Ohio State men's lacrosse head coach, announced the team's 2005 schedule Thursday. The two-time defending Great Western Lacrosse League champions will play host to seven games in Columbus, beginning with a game against 2004 national runner-up Navy Feb. 26. Five of the Buckeyes' opponents ended last season ranked in the Top 20 in the nation, while another two were receiving votes in the national poll. (read more)

WLax: Le Moyne Inks Three During Early Period

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Three Central New York lacrosse standouts have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse program as members of the Class of 2009. Defender Betsy Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), attack Michelle Lissner (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and attack Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) will join the Dolphins, according to third-year head coach Lauren O'Connor. LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-The Siena women's lacrosse program has signed three players to National Letters of Intent, for the 2005-06 academic year Saints head coach Jake McHerron announced today. Philadelphia Names Tony Resch Head Coach; Other Recent News from the MLL and NLL

Philadelphia, PA (December 1, 2004) – The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, introduced new Head Coach Tony Resch at a press conference at Villanova Stadium today. The Barrage also introduced new Local Operator Gary M. Holloway Sr. and General Manager Keith Mecca at the press conference and unveiled a new logo and color scheme. (read more)

SYRACUSE, N.Y. * The defending national champion Syracuse University men's lacrosse team signed three highly sought-after recruits during the November signing period. Head coach John Desko announced that high school seniors Dan Hardy (Tully, N.Y./Tully H.S.), Kenny Nims (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown H.S.) and Pat Perritt (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East H.S.) have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Orange beginning in the fall of 2005. Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's lacrosse coach Shari Krasnoo has announced the signing of six high school seniors to national letters-of-intent during the fall signing period. Joanna Boland, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Maura Mahoney, Jenna McCabe, Katie Monaghan, and Rachel Tinquist will enroll at BC in the fall of 2005, joining the Eagles for the 2006 season, the team's first as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pietramala Announces 2005 JHU Schedule

BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced the Blue Jays' 12-game schedule for the upcoming 2005 season today. The Blue Jays will once again play one of the most difficult schedules in the nation and will play seven of their 12 games at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays have won 27 straight games at Homewood Field and are 28-1 at home under Pietramala. (read more)

Terps Men's Lacrosse Releases 2005 Schedule

Maryland men's lacrosse coach Dave Cottle has released the Terps' 2005 spring schedule. The Terps, who reached the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2004 and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the final UISLA Geico/STX coaches' poll, will once again play one of the most competitive schedules in the nation in 2005. Maryland takes on seven teams that finished 2004 ranked in the top 20, including three of the top five, and four that advanced to at least the NCAA Quarterfinals. (read more)

North Carolina Announces 2005 MLax Schedule

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.­­Coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance in six years in 2004, the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will play a challenging 12-game regular season schedule in 2005 highlighted by four contests against fellow NCAA teams from 2004 and a trip to San Diego to face Notre Dame. Mercyhurst Signs 9 to National Letters of Intent

(Erie, PA) Men’s Lacrosse Coach Chris Ryan announced Monday, November 29, that nine student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent and have committed to continuing their educations and playing careers at Mercyhurst College. The nine commitments represent the largest early signing group in the history of the program. They will have some big shoes to fill as Mercyhurst graduates seventeen seniors from this year's team. 2004 Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Recap

HUNT VALLEY, Md. — The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inducted 10 new members on Saturday, November 20 at the Hunt Valley Marriott in Maryland. Nearly 500 people attended the Hall of Fame Induction Celebration, including 55 current Hall of Famers. This is the 47th class to be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame since 1957. (read more)

Binghamton Signs Six Players to 2005-2006 NLIs

Head men's lacrosse coach Ed Stephenson has finalized his 2005-2006 recruiting with the signing of six high school players to national letters of intent. Four of the recruits were selected for the Western Empire State Team in 2004. As a group, the 2005-2006 incoming class features a variety of skills and accolades. Stephenson expects that each player will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact upon arriving on campus. (read more)

Former Wellesley Player Named Rhodes Scholar

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Elizabeth "Betsy" Masiello, Wellesley College Class of 2003, has been named one of 32 Rhodes Scholars chosen from the U.S. this year. A computer science major and economics minor at Wellesley, Masiello is pursuing graduate studies in the Technology and Policy Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the ninth Wellesley College student to win the prestigious honor since women were allowed to apply in 1976. (read more)

Maryland Announces 2005 Men's Team Captains

Maryland men¹s lacrosse coach Dave Cottle announced on Tuesday that four players have been named team captains for the 2005 season. US Lacrosse Receives $4.5 Million Bequest

BALTIMORE -A. Norman Webb, Jr., a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, left a bequest to US Lacrosse estimated at $4.5 million-the largest gift ever received by the organization. Webb passed away on Sept. 2, 2004. (read more)

UMBC Men's Lacrosse Names 2005 Team Captains

The UMBC men’s lacrosse has selected its team captains for the 2005 season. The four team captains are senior midfielder Joe Cahill (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen), senior goalkeeper Kevin Cepelak (Northport, NY/Northport), junior attackman Brendan Mundorf (Baltimore, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) and senior midfielder Jerry Solazzo (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha). (read more)

Homewood Site Set for Men's QF on Sat., May 21

BALTIMORE, MD -- For the third time in five years and the fourth time since the NCAA went to predetermined sites, Johns Hopkins University has been selected to host the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse South Quarterfinal doubleheader. Johns Hopkins, which previously hosted the quarterfinals in 1996, 2000 and 2002, will host on Saturday, May 21, 2005 with games at noon and approximately 3:00 pm. (read more)

LoCascio to Enter National Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Boston, MA (November 19, 2004) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that former Philadelphia Barrage head coach Sal LoCascio will be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 20. LoCascio, who led the Barrage to their first Major League Lacrosse title in 2004, will be inducted with nine others at a formal ceremony in Hunt Valley, Md. (read more)

DENVER – The University of Denver men and women’s lacrosse team released their schedules, it was announced today. Brock Captures Canadian National Championship

Lennoxville, Quebec - For the first time in Canadian University Lacrosse history, the Brock Badgers were crowned National Champions, defeating the Bishops Gaiters on their home turf in front of 1,000 fans by the score of 10-9. (read more)

MLL Agreement with ESPN2, Other MLL/NLL News

Boston, MA (November 3, 2004) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, and ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, have agreed to a multi-year extension that will keep MLL “Game of the Week” telecasts on ESPN2 for the 2005 and 2006 seasons, MLL Commissioner David Gross announced today. ESPN2 has been the national television home of Major League Lacrosse for the past two years. (read more)

2004 Baggataway Cup Championship

Lennoxville, QC – The Brock University Badgers will be looking for a three-peat of the University National title this weekend at the 2004 Baggataway Cup, the emblem of supremacy in Canadian University Men’s Lacrosse, in Lennoxville.

The CUFLA tournament, hosted by Bishop’s University, gets under way on Friday, Nov. 5 with the championship game for the Baggataway Cup scheduled for Sunday afternoon (complete schedule below). The All-Canadians and major award winners will be announced on Saturday morning. (read more)

INDIANAPOLIS - Kelly Albin, a former lacrosse standout at University of California, Davis, is the 2004 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Albin received the award – one of the most prestigious that the NCAA bestows – at the 14th annual NCAA Woman of the Year Awards Dinner October 31 at the Westin Indianapolis. The award honors academic and athletics excellence, as well as community service and leadership. (read more)

Team Canada Wins Heritage Cup

Syracuse Wins All 3 at Great Pumpkin Stick-Out

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The defending national champion Orange men's lacrosse team won its three games at the Pumpkin Stick-Out, an annual fall tournament held at Syracuse University's Coyne Field, and organized by the Upstate New York Chapter of US Lacrosse to raise money for youth lacrosse in the area. Notre Dame Faces Three Final-4 Teams in Fall Ball

The University of Notre Dame men's lacrosse team will conclude its fall workouts with exhibition games over the next week against three teams that reached the national semifinals of last year's NCAA Championship. The Irish will head to Anheiser-Busch Athletic Center in St. Louis, Mo., this weekend for Sunday's Fall Faceoff, in which they will first play Princeton in the morning (game not open to the public) and then Johns Hopkins at 1:30 p.m. (CDT). Notre Dame will then travel to Annapolis, Md., next Thursday, Oct. 14, to face 2004 NCAA runner-up Navy at 8 p.m. (EDT). (read more)

National Lacrosse League Sets 2005 Schedule

The National Lacrosse League has announced its 2005 regular season schedule. The regular season will begin on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2005. The season kicks off on January 1 with a pair of games. The expansion Minnesota NLL team will travel to Rochester to face the Rochester Knighthawks at 7:35pm Eastern. Later that evening, the Colorado Mammoth host the 2004 Champion’s Cup winning Calgary Roughnecks in what has become the biggest rivalry of the West Division. Gametime is 7pm Moutain. (read more)

The 2004 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft will take place on Tuesday, October 26th at 8pm Eastern Time. The Entry Draft will consist of six rounds. The league’s eleven teams will select a total of 66 players. The expansion Minnesota NLL team currently holds the top overall selection in the Entry Draft. Bucknell's Sid Jamieson to Retire After '05 Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sid Jamieson, the only head coach the Bucknell lacrosse program has ever known, announced today that he will step away from the sidelines following the 2005 season. One of the true coaching legends in collegiate lacrosse, in particular as a cultivator and spokesman for the Native American influence on the sport, Jamieson’s final season will be his 38th with the Bison.
