RIT Sacks Saxons in Empire 8 Contest

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team broke a two-game winning streak with a 12-4 win over Alfred University on Wednesday afternoon in Empire 8 action on RIT Field.

RIT out shot the Saxons 51-34 and won the ground ball battle 43-28. The Tigers went 2-for-7 with the man advantage as Andy Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) and Tanner King (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) led the Tigers with two goals and two assists apiece.

Kevin Rattigan (Chicago, IL/Western Reserve Academy) picked up his first collegiate win making seven saves while allowing just two goals. Rob Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT) played the second half and made six saves while allowing two goals.

The Tigers came out firing in the first quarter, scoring five goals. Dan Rago (Geneva, NY), Ruocco, Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), Wes Adam (Lafayette, NY) and Tanner King each scored goals in the first quarter.

The second quarter started with Alfred tallying a goal but finished with the Tigers scoring four straight leading 9-2 at the break. Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/N. Stafford), King, Doug Hemink (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Ruocco all tallied goals in the quarter. It was Hemink's first collegiate goal.

Billy Walton (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) scored the lone goal in the third quarter on an assist from Sean Gillies (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy), increasing RIT's lead to 10-2.

Rago and Adam rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter for RIT, who win their 33rd game versus Alfred.

Matt Leslie led Alfred with a pair of goals. The Saxons fall to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8.

RIT, who improves to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8, will Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 pm on RIT Field. The Tigers will celebrate the 40th anniversary for RIT lacrosse.
