#8 Haverford Scores Two in Last 1:11 to Nip Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Eight-ranked Haverford (8-2, 3-2 Centennial) scored two goals in the final 1:11 in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 26 seconds left, as the Fords handed Ursinus (5-7, 3-2 Centennial) a 6-5 loss in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse play Wednesday.

Ursinus, which held the Fords to six goals under their game average in the loss, took a 5-4 lead with 6:47 left as senior midfielder Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored his second goal of the game. With 2:30 left, Ursinus turned the ball over, allowing the Fords to get into their offensive third where senior midfielder Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald scored with 1:11 left to tie the score at 5-all.

Following the faceoff, Haverford was able to get the ball to sophomore attack Brian Fleishhacker who scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Andrew Kim with 26 seconds left. Ursinus was able to get ball close to the net with ten seconds left, but a shot by junior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) sailed wide as time expired.

Ursinus led the game at the half 4-3, after trailing 3-1 at the end of the first. The Bears got three goals in a span of 5:03 starting with a goal by senior defender Kevin Wallace (Landerberg, PA/Avon Grove) at 13:07. Dane Mangin had a hand in the next goal, as his pass allowed sophomore attack Pat Nagle (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) to score at 8:31, tying the score at 3-all. Mangin scored his first goal of the game at 8:04 in the second to give Ursinus the halftime edge.

Mangin and Nagle both finished with two goals, while Mangin had two assists. For Haverford, Fleishhacker had two goals. Defensively, Haverford had 34 ground balls, while Ursinus grabbed 28. Senior defender Eric Hoffman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) had four groundballs, while Wallace had three to go along with a game-high six caused turnovers.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) had 13 saves. The Fords split time with two goalies, but, senior netminder Jake Mendlinger had eight saves in 54 minutes of play.

Ursinus travels to Gettysburg on Saturday.
