Queens Drops Pfeiffer in Senior Night Thriller

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 10, 2008) – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team finished the 2008 home season out on a high note as they defeated Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University 15-12 at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park Wednesday night. The win propels Queens to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in conference action, while Pfeiffer falls to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in league play. The night marked that last regular season home game for the Royals five seniors.

The game was extremely close with Queens holding advantages in shots, 29-26, groundballs, 19-18, and draw controls, 18-12.

The Royals held a 3-2 advantage midway through the first half until Pfeiffer scored four unanswered goals to 6-3 with 10 minutes until the half. Erin Schulz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) snapped the Pfeiffer run scoring off of an assist from Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn./Cooper). Duffey then scored one of her own.

Pfeiffer answered back with two more goals, but Queens found an offensive rhythm and scored four goals in just about four minutes to take a 9-8 lead at the half. Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y./St. Bonaventure) contributed two of the four.

Martin continued the Royals' run and opened the half with her third goal of the game. On the night Martin tallied five goals and one assist. Pfeiffer responded to the opening goal with three of their own to reclaim the lead, 11-10, with 19 to play.

Kelly Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) tied the game for Queens one minute later and Martin scored the go-ahead goal. Amanda Mahle (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and Schulz notched two more followed by the last Pfeiffer goal of the game. Martin scored the last goal of the contest on a free-position shot for the 15-12 win.

Goalie Logan Canale (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) made 10 saves and faced 22 shots on goal in the win. Falcon goalie Kristen Schafer had five saves on 20 shots.

In addition to Martin's five goal, one assist performance, Duffey notched four points from one goal and three assists.

Jaime Livingston led Pfeiffer with three goals and one assist.

Queens travels to Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. on Saturday for a 2:00 pm start. The Royals close the season at conference rival Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
