Hogan Paces #1 C.W. Post in Rout of Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied six points with four goals and two assists to lead C.W. Post to an 18-2 win over Bentley in Division II women's lacrosse action on a rainy Friday night at the Bentley lacrosse field. The Pioneers, ranked first in the nation for the past eight weeks in the IWLCA/UnderArmour Division II coaches poll, won their 27th straight game to improve this season's record to 10-0, while the Falcons fell to 4-6 after facing the only two unbeaten teams in Division II in back-to-back games.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Scipione (East Meadow, N.Y.) made nine saves while allowing just two goals, backstopping a C.W. Post defensive effort that allowed only 15 shots. On the offensive end, seniors Jenna Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) and Elaine Williams (East Islip, N.Y.) each notched five points while junior Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) chipped in four.

The Pioneers came out strong right from the start and quickly foreshadowed the outcome with six goals in the first ten minutes. Miller assisted four of the first five goals with the other a free position shot by Hogan. After that, Hogan scored three of the next four goals with her free position shot with 7:25 to go in the first giving C.W. Post a 9-0 lead. Williams and sophomore Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) put two more on the board for the Pioneers before halftime, while Scipione stopped all six shots she saw in the first half to make it an 11-0 lead at the break.

Bentley finally broke through early in the second half when senior Beth Gendron (Tyngsboro/Tyngsboro HS) scored, coming up with a rebound off an initial shot that was saved. Gendron scored both of the Falcons' goals in the contest, getting the second with about 11 minutes to go on a free position shot.

C.W. Post continued to pull away in the second, led by a pair of goals from Lyons in the final stanza. The Pioneers held a 35-15 advantage in shots and a 29-11 lead in shots on goal. C.W. Post also won the battle for ground balls, 18-9. Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) stopped 11 shots between the pipes for Bentley.

Bentley's game that was scheduled for tomorrow against American International has been postponed until Friday, April 25. The Falcons next action will now come on Wednesday when the team travels to New Haven, Conn., to take on Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to host Molloy on Friday, April 18, at 4:00 p.m.
