RIT Men's Lacrosse Downs Eastern Connecticut
ROCHESTER, NY -- On Senior Day the RIT men's lacrosse team defeated Eastern Connecticut State 15-8. Senior midfielder Wes Adam (Lafayette, NY) led the Tigers with four goals and an assist as the Tigers improve to 7-6 on the season.
The Tigers used a 5-0 run in the second quarter to break a close game open. RIT out shot Eastern Connecticut 57-25 and won the ground ball battle 56-28. The Tigers went 3-for-6 on man-up and won 19-of-27 face-offs.
Adam led the way with five points on four goals and an assist. Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) added three goals and dished out two assists and Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/N. Stafford) and Dan Rago (Geneva, NY) each had two goals. Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ON/Bridgton Academy) picked up the win, making two saves in the first half.
D.J. Simmons paced the Warriors with four goals. Matt Savage had a goal and two assists. Kyle Savage took the loss for Eastern Connecticut, making 12 saves.
Eastern Connecticut held an early lead in the first quarter. After Bressler gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead the Warriors ripped off three straight goals.
RIT responded with a three-goal run, taking the lead back on Garrett Johnson's (Fairfield, CT) second goal of the season with 5:32 remaining in the half.
Simmons tied the score at 4-4 on an unassisted goal by Simmons with 2:35 remaining in the opening quarter.
The second quarter belonged to RIT as they scored five straight goals. Ruocco scored all three of his goals in the second quarter, joined by Adam and George During (Skaneateles, NY) who also scored for RIT as they took a 9-4 lead into half time.
After a Simmons goal to open the third quarter cut RIT's lead to 9-5 Chris Ferry answered to make it 10-5 RIT.
Simmons tallied another to make it 10-6 but Chris Cherami answered with an unassisted goal, giving RIT an 11-6 lead.
The fourth quarter saw RIT outscore the Warriors 4-2. Dan Rago had two goals in the quarter and Adam and Bressler each had a goal as RIT scored the second-most goals of the season.
RIT will host Utica College in Empire 8 action on Wednesday, April 16 at 4:00 pm on RIT Field.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After holding the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for more than 40 minutes in its last match, the Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team was shut down for 19 minutes Saturday in a 15-8 loss to Rochester Tech (RIT) that ended a seven-game winnings streak.
Coming off three straight Little East Conference home wins – including a dominant 16-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth -- Eastern (7-5) played RIT (7-6) on even terms through the first period Saturday before the Tigers kept the Warriors off the board for 19 minutes, scoring five unanswered goals in the second period to build a five-goal halftime lead.
After scoring three straight goal early in the match, Eastern never again scored as many as two in a row as the Tigers outscored the Warriors 11-4 after the opening stanza.
Junior midfielder DJ Simmons (Mystic) scored the final goal of the first period to pull Eastern even at 4-4, but the Warriors went scoreless and were outshot 18-4 in the second period before Simmons scored his second goal 1:31 into the third period.
RIT senior midfielder Andrew Ruocco scored all three of his goals in the second period and the Warriors never got closer than four the rest of the way.
In the match, RIT outshot Eastern 57-25, had twice as many ground balls, and won 19 of 27 faceoffs. The win is the third straight for RIT over Eastern after the Warriors captured the initial meeting in the series in overtime.
