No. 5 Golden Lions Extend Winning Streak to Nine
Brookhaven, NY -- Nick Cotter (Whitby, Ontario) scored 4 goals including the 100th of his career as #5 Dowling defeated Molloy 10-7 at Golden Lions Field. The win continues the Golden Lions win streak, extending it to 9 straight and pushes their record to 9-1 (2-0 ECC). Molloy falls to 4-7 (0-4 ECC).
After Cotter opened the scoring 1:48 into the game, lightning struck and both teams were sent to their locker rooms. After a 30 minute delay, Molloy came out with more energy, netting two straight goals, the second coming from Keith Galante to put the Lions ahead 2-1. Dowling would answer back with a 4-0 run to close out the first half, the last coming from Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) on a nice inside roll dodge. Each team traded goals in the 2nd quarter and Dowling held a 6-3 advantage going into halftime.
Molloy would out shoot Dowling in the second half 22-11 but the Golden Lions defensive unit, led by goaltender Nick Tracey (Farmingville, NY), would hold the lead. Tracey made numerous solo stops, including a 3rd quarter breakaway by Ryan Bohlert. Molloy would be held without a goal in the 3rd quarter. Campbell would add 2 goals and 2 assists as Dowling would survive a late Molloy rally to earn the victory
Tracey finished with 13 saves on the day, 3 short of breaking Dowling all-time career record. Campbell had 5 points (3G, 2A) and John McClure (Brampton, Ontario) had a goal and assist and a team high 7 ground balls. For Molloy, Jeffery Flandina finished with 2 goals and an assist and Kieth Meekins had two goals on the day.
Dowling returns to action Wednesday, 4/16 in a conference action away against Dominican at 4:00.
