Lords Tame Tigers, Notch Eighth Win

GAMBIER, Ohio – Noah Flessel (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley) racked up his second six-goal game of the season, Devin Catlin (Charlottesville, VA/Western Albemarle) registered five assists, and David Page (West Chester, PA/St. Andrew's (DE)) was sharp in goal with 11 saves. That trio set the tone Saturday afternoon for the Kenyon College lacrosse team's 14-8 victory over the visiting Colorado College Tigers.

Flessel, who scored six goals in a win over Sewanee earlier this season, got the Lords off to a rapid start. He scored two of the team's four, first-quarter goals and two more of the team's four, second-quarter goals. Nate Pritchard (Narberth, PA/Lower Merion) assisted on Flessel's goals in the first quarter and Catlin assisted on the ones in the second quarter, giving Kenyon an 8-4 lead at the half.

The Tigers had problems clearing the ball, doing so just eight times in 14 first-half chances, but Kenyon struggled to pick up loose balls and wound up on the wrong side of a 35-25 final groundball total.

The Lords did, however, take advantage of their man-up situations. Colorado found itself playing a man down on seven different occasions and Kenyon scored on four of those occasions. Flessel was responsible for two of those man-up goals and Zach Wallace (Gladwyne, PA/Harriton) netted the other two.

Kenyon (8-1) increased its lead to 11-5 after three quarters of play, but Colorado (5-3) gained some momentum with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. That pair of goals was scored by Hunter Combs, who ended up firing in five of the Tigers' eight goals.

The Tigers' rally was squashed, however, when Catlin, Ben Alexander (West Falls, NY/East Aurora), and Pritchard responded with Kenyon tallies late in the game. In addition to his five assists, Catlin logged two goals. Pritchard finished with a goal and two assists, and both Wallace and Alexander scored twice.

Guarding the Lords' net, Page got a peek at 37 Colorado shots. His 11 saves helped keep a Lords' opponent to less than ten goals for the third straight game. Page now has 84 saves this season to go along with a 7.83 goals against average.

The game was a good test for Kenyon, which now faces the meat of its schedule, going up against conference powerhouses Ohio Wesleyan University (April 20) and Denison University (April 26) in its next two contests.
