Kaufmann Leads No. 6 Bryant Past Pace
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Bryant University junior Bryan Kaufmann (Putnam Valley, NY) equaled a career-best with six goals and added an assist as the sixth-ranked Bryant men's lacrosse team won their fifth-straight defeating Pace University, 17-7 in Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday at Pace Field. Teammate Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, CT) added three goals while freshman Gary Crowley (Scituate, MA) picked up three assists for the Bulldogs who travel to Franklin Pierce Sunday.
Bryant (8-3, 5-1 NE-10) got on the board quickly as Kaufmann picked up an unassisted goal at 13:27 of the first. The Setters would get the equalizer moments later as James Hammel fired home an unassisted goal to make it 1-1. But it was all Bryant from that point on as Hoagland helped start a six-goal spurt with a tally at 11:17 as the Bulldogs quickly led 7-1 and took a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.
Two more goals in the second helped send the Bulldogs into the halftime break up 9-3. In the second half, it was all Bryant as Kaufmann scored three more goals and Hoagland added a pair as the Bulldogs put the game away out-scoring the Setters 4 to 1 in the third.
Senior goalie Michael Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made seven stops in the net before giving way to backup Brad Burkhardt (Branford, CT) – 2 saves – in the fourth.
(Pace (6-4, 3-2 NE-10), which saw it's three-game win streak snapped, got two goals from Justin Page. Bryant out-shot the hosts 50 to 18 in the game while sophomore Andrew Hennessey (Wading River, NY), a preseason all-American, continued his dominance in the face-off circle, winning 20 of 25 on the day.
