#7 Gannon Rolls to Easy Victory over Indiana (Pa.)
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals and rolled to an easy 23-2 victory Monday evening against Indiana (Pa.) at Gannon University Field.
Gannon needed only 12 seconds to dent the scoreboard on Taryn Millerd's (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) first of four goals. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) then scored back-to-back goals in the span of 40 seconds and the rout was on. Millerd later added back-to-back goals and finished with three of the first eight scores.
Indiana (Pa.) stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 19:32 mark, but Gannon answered with seven of the next eight goals and went to halftime with a 15-2 advantage. The Lady Knights scored on eight of their 13 shots in the second half, out-scoring the Crimson Hawks 8-0 in the final 30 minutes.
Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) led the offensive unit with nine points, dishing out eight assists. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) added seven points with four goals and three assists.
Eshenour headlined the goal scorers with six scores. Millerd and Dana Rousseau (Easton, Md./Easton) added four and three goals, respectively. Antonia Cianfrocco (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and Carla Jemison (Versailles, N.Y./Gowanda) chipped in two goals each. Christina Blasi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) completed with scoring with one goal while dishing out four assists.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) recorded eight saves while improving to 6-2 in goal.
Gannon, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, snapped a two-match losing streak while improving to 7-3. Indiana (Pa.) dropped to 2-10 with its fifth consecutive loss. The Lady Knights return to action Wednesday, April 16 at Seton Hill. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
