Bates Runs Away From Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore attack Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) scored a team-high four goals to lead the Bates College Bobcats to a 20-5 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Monday at Paula Hodgdon Field in Gorham.

Dilworth was one of four Bates' players to score at least three goals as the Bobcats rolled to their second consecutive win to even out their record to 5-5. The loss halts a two-game win streak for the Huskies who fall to 4-7 overall.

After falling behind 1-0 in the opening minute of play, Bates rattled off five straight goals, including a pair from Dilworth, to take control of the game. Bates led Southern Maine 9-3 at the half. Bates outscored USM 11-2 in the second stanza.

Senior co-captain Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), sophomore midfielder Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine/Portland) and freshman midfielder Briana Gross (Barrington, R.I./Kent School) each fired in three goals, while Radis handed off a pair of assists. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass./St. Mark's School) led the Bobcats with three assists to compliment a pair of goals.

Senior attack Justene Dorr (Gorham, Maine/Kimball School) led the Southern Maine attack with three goals, including both USM goals in the second half. Freshmen Kristy Kendrick (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) and Mary Vaughan (Brunswick, Maine/Pomfret School) rounded out the scoring for the Huskies.

USM senior goalkeeper Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Millbrook School) played well in the loss turning back 28 shots - two shy of the Huskies' single-game record and one off of her career high. Bates freshman goalkeeper Mary Krueger (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) made seven saves in the win.

Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it travels to Vermont for a non-conference game against Castleton State. Bates travels to Gordon College on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).
