#5 Bryant Cruises by Assumption; Kaufmann Nets 100th

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior attackman Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, CT) scored four goals while teammate Bryan Kaufmann (Putnam Valley, NY) scored two including the 100th of his career to lead the Bryant University men's lacrosse team to a 19-2 win over visiting Assumption College Tuesday night. Bryant, winners of seven in-a-row, will host Saint Anselm College this Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium starting at 3:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs controlled this game right from the start and were never threatened. Winning the opening face-off, Kaufmann found Hoagland unguarded in front of the Greyhound for an easy tap in just eight seconds into the contest and the Bulldogs were off and running.

Bryant out-shot Assumption 53 to 9 and out-worked the Greyhounds with 57 ground balls to just 19 for the visitors. Face-off specialist Andrew Hennessey (Wading River, NY) dominated the circle once again. The sophomore All-American showed why winning 17 of 19 face-offs in the game and also adding his first goal of the season at the same time.

Thirteen different players scored at least a goal for the Bulldogs as Bryant went to its bench early in the second half. But in the opening period, it was all Bryant as the Greyhounds had trouble stopping the dangerous one-two punch of Bryant's front line. Kaufmann picked up assists on Bryant's first three goals as Jim Long made it 2-0 just over a minute later before Hoagland drilled back-to-back goals later in the quarter to make it 4-0.

Bryant (10-3, 7-1 NE-10) led 7-0 after the first and led 9-0 before Matt Klaskin put Assumption (2-10, 0-8 NE-10) on the board with a man-up goal, just getting it past Bulldog netminder Michael Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, NY).

Kaufmann would add two goals of his own in the second quarter, the first on an even-strength goal unassisted with 3:13 left in the second. The goal was the 100th of his career. Moments later, he was get No. 101. Jim Long (Durham, NH) would help set up Kaufmann for his 101st moments later putting the game out of reach as the Bulldogs took an 11-1 lead into the half.
