Hamilton Handles Hartwick

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Marc Albu '08 and Max Akuamoah-Boateng '09 scored three goals apiece to help lead Hamilton College to a 10-7 non-league men's lacrosse victory against visiting Hartwick College at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 15.

Albu leads Hamilton (5-6 overall) with 15 goals and 16 points. Akuamoah-Boateng entered the game with four goals in his career. Kevin Coughlin '09 added one goal, one assist and four ground balls. Eli Leino '10 made 10 saves in his first career start in goal. Billy Haas '10 won 9 of 14 faceoffs as the Continentals won 13 of 19 as a team. Hamilton ended a three-game losing skid. The Continentals lead the all-time series with 15 wins and nine losses.

Vito DeMola '11 paced Hartwick's offense with three goals and two assists. DeMola, who leads the Hawks with 37 goals, scored all three of his goals during extra-man situations. Hartwick (4-8) was 4-for-11 in extra-man opportunities. Dan Hushion '08 chipped in two goals. Mike Robustello '08 came off the bench to score one goal and pass out two assists. John Meade '09 kept the Hawks in the game with 17 saves, including seven in the second period alone.

Hartwick led once at 1-0 on a Hushion goal just 59 seconds into the first quarter. Hamilton came back to lead 2-1 and 3-2, but DeMola tied the score at 3-3 on his first extra-man goal with 14:12 left in the second quarter.

The Continentals grabbed the lead for good with five straight goals that bridged the second and third quarters. Akuamoah-Boateng started and ended the run, while Albu also scored two of the five goals. Akuamoah-Boateng's third and final goal gave Hamilton an 8-3 lead with 8:13 remaining in the third quarter. The Hawks didn't get closer than three goals the rest of the way.
