No. 8 Cabrini Pulls Upset of No. 6 Haverford
HAVERFORD, Pa. (April 16) - Senior Matt McKinney and junior Scott Reimer each scored two goals as the #8 Cabrini College men's lacrosse team upended #6 Haverford College 13-8 this afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 11-2 while Haverford drops to 9-3.
Junior Matt Conaway, sophomore Casey Grugan and fresman Paul Skulski led the Cavaliers with two assists. Cabrini held a 39-31 lead in shots and recorded six more ground balls than Haverford (36-30). Both teams stopped 10 shots.
Junior Bobby Chambers played the first 30 minutes in the net for the Cavaliers, stopping four shots while classmate Kevin Chenoweth registered six saves in the final two periods.
Haverford built a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period before the Cavaliers scored the first three goals, including two from Grugan, of the second period to take a 5-3 lead. Both squads scored twice more as Cabrini held a 7-5 lead at the break.
McKinney tallied the only two scores of the third period, putting Cabrini in front by four, but Haverford cut its deficit to two (9-7) with 11:25 remaining in the game. The Cavaliers closed the game with a 4-1 scoring run to earn the win.
