Merrimack Rebounds, Routs Franklin Pierce
RINDGE, NH - The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team rebounded from yesterday's loss, picking up a convincing 23-6 win over Franklin Pierce University on Thursday evening. Sophomore Mia Basile (Longmeadow, MA) scored six goals and contributed an assist, while junior Lauren Leddy (Sea Girt, NJ) netted three goals and helped on four others.
The Warriors jumped out to a five goal lead in less than six minutes, with Kelly Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) scoring twice en route to her four goal, two assist performance. On the season, the sophomore has 46 goals and 15 assists.
Merrimack finished with a 17 goal first half, which was highlighted by senior Amanda Poor's (Ipswich, MA) first goal of the 2008 season, and Maddie Basile's (Longmeadow, MA) 30th goal of the year, which culminated in the sophomore's natural hat-trick with 48 seconds remaining until the intermission.
Senior Amanda DiNitto (East Moriches, NY) turned aside seven shots in goal to earn her fifth win of the season. The Warriors outshot the Ravens 40-19, and forced 19 turnovers, coming up with 13 groundballs.
Merrimack (8-3, 7-2 NE-10) will play its third game in four days on Friday when the team will host the University of New Haven at 4:00 p.m.
