No. 3 Cortland Breezes by Brockport
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior attackers Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Billy Fuchs (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) combined for 10 goals and seven assists as nationally third-ranked Cortland cruised to a 17-2 victory at Brockport.
Heath finished with five goals and four assists and Fuchs recorded five goals and three assists for the Red Dragons (10-1, 4-0 SUNYAC). Freshman midfielder Chris DeLuca (Sayville) scored twice and won all seven of his faceoff attempts and senior midfielder Josh Cittadino (Baldwin) notched two assists and controlled 7-of-9 faceoffs. Freshman attacker Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and senior attacker Kyle Simensky (Locust Valley) each assisted on two goals as well.
Junior Mike Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) played three quarters in goal for Cortland. He stopped five shots and allowed one goal.
Joe Gomez (Amherst) and Mike McSweeney (Marcellus) scored goals for Brockport (5-5, 0-4). Garret Allwes (Amherst) made six saves in 26:13 between the pipes and Tom Keenan (Brasher Falls/St. Lawrence) recorded five goals over 33:47 of action.
Cortland scored the game's first 12 goals and led 2-0, 8-0 and 12-1 at the period breaks. Each of the Red Dragons' first 11 tallies were scored and/or assisted by Heath or Fuchs, including all five of Heath's goals in the contest.
The Red Dragons outshot the Golden Eagles, 38-19, and won 19-of-23 faceoffs.
