Wooster Shuts Down Washington & Jefferson
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Three different Fighting Scots collected hat tricks as the College of Wooster recorded a 12-6 men's lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.
Tim Lee, Matt Pullara and Mark Weschler all scored three goals for the Fighting Scots (8-2). Alex Mies added two scores, while Chris Gatsch scored one goal.
Wooster built a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Presidents (3-8) closed to within 6-4 at halftime after second-period goals by senior midfielder Chris Vogel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and sophomore midfielder Jackson Doyle (Northville, Mich./Northville).
The Presidents only trailed 7-5 late in the third quarter, but Weschler and Mies netted goals in the final 51 seconds of the period to open a 9-5 advantage. Wooster tacked on three goals in the final quarter to run away with the win.
Meis dished out two assists for Wooster, while Matt Biester came on to play the final 45 minutes in goal and finished with eight saves. The Fighting Scots used a 44-17 shot advantage and held a 45-30 edge in ground balls.
Vogel, Doyle and senior midfielder Tim Huckestein (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) all contributed two goals for the Presidents. Freshman goalie Quinton Thorne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester-Thurston) turned back 16 shots in the setback.
The Presidents return to action in 10 days when traveling to Ohio Wesleyan for a 1:00 pm contest.
