Washington & Jefferson Falls to Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – Kaitlin Barrer scored five goals and assisted on two others to help Oberlin College post a 15-7 women's lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Yeowomen (3-8) had seven different goal scorers and raced out to a 9-3 halftime advantage. Oberlin scored five consecutive goals at one point during the first half.

Washington & Jefferson scored three of the first four goals in the second half, including a pair by freshman attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West), to narrow the gap to 10-6. However, OC fired in the next three goals to open a seven-goal advantage and secure the win.

Maggie Casey added two goals and two assists for the Yeowomen, who held a 33-22 shot advantage. Kira Rivera was the winning goalkeeper after totaling nine saves.

Schrock led the Presidents' scoring output with four goals, while junior Laura Peery (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) pitched in with two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Valerie Orczechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) also netted one goal and dished out one assist.

Freshman goalie Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) took the loss in goal despite making 10 saves.

Washington & Jefferson (2-6) continues its first varsity season on Saturday with an 11:00 am contest at Marymount (Va.).
