Mount Ida Romps Over Becker on Senior Day

Senior John Lightbown (Melrose, MA/Melrose) broke the Mount Ida College Men's Lacrosse program record for goals in a career netting four scores and two assists in a 23-4 victory over North Atlantic Conference (NAC) member Becker College this Wednesday on senior day. After setting the record with 12:17 left in the third quarter, he would inch closer to taking over as the all time leader in points needing only one more tally in the next three regular season games. The Mustangs would stay perfect in the NAC at 6-0 and better to 9-5 overall while the Hawks drop to 4-3 on the season, 2-3 in league play.

Mount Ida would score the first nine goals of the contest and keep the visitors quiet the entire opening quarter. MIC junior Brett Conley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) would tally four goals and one assist during the beginning barrage of offense by the Mustangs. Lightbown, junior Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, NY/Fairport), freshmen Paul Battapaglia (Clinton, CT/Morgan) and Matt Savage (Peabody, MA/Peabody) each netted one a piece during the opening strike taking the 9-0 lead.

The Hawks would finally get on the board with 8:16 showing in the second quarter on a score by freshman Eric Sweet (Moretown, VT/Harwood Union) making it 9-1.

After an exchange of goals by both teams, the Mustangs would reel off another nine unanswered scores including two in a row for Lightbown to give him the record. Freshmen Adam Stamatakos (Barrington, RI/Barrington) and junior Travis Roache (Hyde Park, MA/MATCH) added two a piece during the offensive thump taking the 18-2 advantage. It would be all over from there with a string of goals from the Mustangs giving them the 23-4 victory, good for their sixth in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

Mount Ida would see first time season scores from senior Tom Watts (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion), junior Craig Heintzelman (Windham, NH/Salem), and freshman Billy Eagan (North Andover, MA/North Andover). Sophomore John Perez (Dorchester, MA/Wayland) and freshman Dan Harrington (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) would chip in two a piece along with one from freshman transfer Breadan Draper (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic/Nazareth).

The Hawks would combine for three more goals from sophomore's Aaron Fill (Lander, British Columbia/Delta) and Josh Fask (Worcester, MA/Doherty).

Sophomore goaltender Matt Vernik (Bethany, CT/Amity Regional) saved five shots for the Mustangs and was relieved by senior Luke Philip Wilson (Essex, MA/Ipswich) would stop four. Becker saw sophomore Peter Fellows (Boylston, MA/O'Neill) deny 18 Mount Ida shots.

The Mustangs will travel to Johnson State this coming Saturday with the opening face off coming at 2:00 p.m.
