#14 Denison Tops Colorado College to Win 7th Straight

The Denison Big Red continued to prove that they are one of the hottest teams in Division III men's lacrosse following Friday night's 16-5 victory over Colorado College at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

The Big Red held a 7-3 lead at the half and put together a brilliant third quarter which saw DU leap out of halftime intermission with four goals in a 51-second span that started with 14:44 on the clock and ended with 13:53. Two of those goals were scored by sophomore attackman Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and the other two were netted by freshman Emmett Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo/Air Academy) and junior Nick Jacobs (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill), who won a face-off and forced the ball down the field, past the unprepared Tiger defense.

Overall, the second half was dominated by the Big Red as they outscored the Tigers 9-2 and grabbed 15 of their 33 ground balls. Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) had a big night as well. He tallied 14 saves on the night and improved his season save percentage to .697 in 537 minutes in the cage.

Burton led Denison in scoring with five goals, running his total to 39 for the season and 86 for his short career. He also chipped in one assist off a Jones goal in the second quarter. Following Burton was senior Rick Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) who posted two goals and added to his team-high assist total with four helpers. Junior Nate Hall (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) scored once and also had four assists while Jacobs and Jones both scored twice.

Conner Detjen (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) was 11-for-18 in face-off's and led the team with nine ground balls. In the first half Detjen was 8-for-10 in the circle which played a key role in Denison's time of possession.

The win is Denison's seventh straight and runs their season record to 10-2. They are currently ranked 14th in the latest Division III top-20 poll. DU has three games left on their regular season schedule with the final two coming against North Coast Athletic Conference foes, Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan. Prior to those match-up's DU will host Fontbonne on Tuesday (April 22) at 4:00 p.m.
