#2 College of New Jersey Stops #6 Washington & Lee
Collegeville, PA -- Second-ranked The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team dealt sixth-ranked Washington & Lee University its first loss in more than a month as the Lions slipped past the Generals by the score of 12-8 on Saturday. The win by the Lions also brought an end to Washington & Lee's 11-game winning streak.
The game was played at Ursinus College. The win put the Lions at 11-1 on the season, while the Generals fell to 15-2. Washington & Lee's last lost was on March 8 against Franklin & Marshall.
The Lions got off to a good start scoring four of the game's first five goals with senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scoring three and junior Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) the other. After TCNJ's lead grew to 6-2, the Generals scored netted five of the next six goals sending the teams into the half deadlocked at 7-7.
In the second half, the Lions opened the scoring to retake the lead as freshman Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored 4:18 into the new period and senior Diane Haddeland (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) made it a two-game four minutes later.
After the Generals trimmed the deficit back to one, TCNJ kept them off of the board the rest of the way while Doane, Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) and Haddeland added insurance goals down the stretch.
Doane finished with five goals giving her 50 goals on the season. Senior Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) collected four saves to earn the win. In goal for the Generals, senior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) made a game-high 12 saves.
The Lions remain on the road on Tuesday, April 22 heading to Montclair State University for a 7:00 p.m. contest with the Red Hawks. Next up for Washington & Lee is the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- Second-ranked The College of New Jersey used a three-goal spurt in the second half to post a 12-8 victory over sixth-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Ursinus College.
The Generals, who saw an 11-game winning streak come to an end, got on board first when senior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) scored on a free-position shot at 21:45. However, TCNJ then went on a 4-0 run that included three goals from senior attacker Karen Doane and one from junior attacker Rachel Gordon, to take a 4-1 lead with 15:43 left in the first half.
The Lions pushed out to a 6-2 lead with 12:09 left, but W&L responded with four-straight goals, including a pair by senior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), to tie the game at 6-6 with 7:47 left in the half and the teams went into the break tied at 7-7.
TCNJ opened the second half with two-straight goals for a 9-7 lead with 20:55 left, but W&L struck again at 16:09 when senior attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) scored to cut it to 9-8. The Lions then notched the final three scores of the game to pull away for the four-goal victory.
W&L (15-2) was led by junior midfielder Kelsi Robinson, who notched two goals and two assists. Henson totaled two goals and one assist, while Bender added two goals. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the entire 60 minutes and registered 12 saves.
TCNJ (11-1) was paced by Doane, who tallied five goals. Senior attacker Diane Haddeland added two goals, while freshman midfielder chipped in one goal and dished out one assist. Senior Caitlin Gregory played the entire contest between the pipes and stopped four shots.
