No. 13 Red Devils Barely Survive Bear Attack

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Needing a win to get into the Centennial Conference, the Ursinus College Women's Lacrosse team didn't go down without a fight on Saturday, rallying from eight goals down at the half, before falling to Dickinson 14-13 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Ursinus (8-9, 5-4 Centennial) fell into a tie for fifth with McDaniel and Muhlenberg. Since the three teams are all 1-1 against each other, the Bears lost out on the second tie-breaking criteria which is goal differential.

Still, the Bears put together one great effort in the second half of what turned out to be their final match of the season.

Trailing by eight heading into the second half, the Bears slowly chipped away at the Red Devils (11-4, 7-2 Centennial) lead.

Down 12-5 with 25:40 left, the Bears went on a 6-0 run to get within one at 12-11 as senior midfielder Kaitlin Glenn (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Lindsey Urban (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) with 5:42 left.

However, Dickinson answered right back just 35 seconds later as sophomore midfielder Alysa Crellin scored. But, the Bears scored with 3:10 left as Urban scored on a free position shot to keep the Bears within one at 13-12.

The Red Devils would score what turned out to be the game-winner with 2:27 left as freshman midfielder Kelsey Muir scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Lexie Kob.

Ursinus would tack on one more goal with 2:06 as Urban scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Cannon (Garrison, NY/James I. O'Neil).

The Bears had two shots in the final 20 seconds, but both were saved by Red Devil freshman goalie Jessie Clark.

Glenn finished her final match for Ursinus with three goals and two assists, while Cannon had three goals and two assists as well. Urban also added in three goals and one assist.

Senior attack Stephanie Kaysen (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored two goals in her final game at Ursinus.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Allyson Shicora (Media, PA/Strath Haven) had four ground balls and had seven saves.

(Collegeville, PA)- The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team endured a tale of two halves on Saturday, surviving a 14-13 Centennial Conference thriller on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Abby Larson (Easton, PA/Gunston Day) scored the first three goals of the game, as the Devils jumped out to a 4-0 advantage just six minutes into the game. Larson triggered another five-goal run for the Devils at the 11:33 mark as the Devils went into halftime with a solid 11-3 lead.

The Bears were far from done, however, storming back with a six-goal run in the second half to pull within 12-11 with 5:42 on the clock. The teams traded goals to make the score 14-13 with just 2:06 remaining in regulation. First-year goalkeeper Jessie Clark (Devon, PA/Conestoga) made a game-saving stop with just two seconds to play to secure the win for the Devils.

Clark stopped 23 shots on the afternoon while senior defender Kate Sanford (Bethesda, MD/Holton-Arms) played solid as well with four ground balls in the defensive end. Ana Sokol (Colts Neck, NJ/Peddie School) controlled five draws. Larson led the attack with four goals and one assist. She also controlled three draws and had a pair of ground balls.

Alysa Crellin (Little Compton, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School) tallied three goals and an assist while first-year Sunnie Ko (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) scored once and handed out three assists. Elizabeth Cannon and Kaitlin Glenn each scored three goals and had two assists for Ursinus (8-9, 5-4). Allyson Shicora made seven saves in the Bear net.
