Manhattanville Downed by Messiah
PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Luke Dorfman (Freeport, N.Y.) scored twice to move into sole possession of fifth place on the Manhattanville men's lacrosse all-time goals scored list, but the Valiants were defeated by Messiah 11-4 Saturday at GoValiants.com Field.
Down 3-0 midway through the second quarter to the MAC-leading Falcons, Dorfman scored two consecutive goals to cut the Messiah lead to one. After scoring the first goal unassisted, Dorfman had help on the second when Andrew McMillin (Garden City, N.Y.) sent a pass across the front of the Messiah cage that Dorfman caught and fired into the back of the net. Ian Lee scored his second of two goals in the game shortly after Dorfman's second to put the Falcons up 4-2 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Valiants took advantage of a slashing penalty to Messiah's Paul Merena and Vinny Menzenski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal to cut the lead back down to one.
Messiah's Nick Ricucci scored three of his game-high five goals in the third quarter as Messiah outshot the Valiants 12-2 and scored six consecutive goals after Menzenski's goal to build a commanding 10-3 lead.
Scott Montaldo (White Plains, N.Y.) tallied his fourth goal of the season late in the fourth and was assisted by Joey Hasbrouck (Wantagh, N.Y.), who now has at least one point in his last ten games. Hasbrouck has recorded at least one point in 12 of the Valiants' 13 games this season, having only been kept pointless by Saint John Fisher.
Despite taking the loss, Andrew Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) was solid in cage for Manhattanville, making 17 saves, his second highest total of the season.
The Valiants (8-5, 1-4 MAC) return to action Wednesday, April 23 at 4:00 p.m. for a Middle Atlantic Conference showdown with DeSales at GoValiants.com Field.
