Red Dragons Dominate from Start to Finish

Freshman Andy Hilton (Rochester/Gates-Chili) and sophomore Matt Harvey (Bay Shore/Islip) each scored four goals in leading Oneonta State to a convincing 19-9 win against visiting Oswego today in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action. The win for the Red Dragons keeps their hopes alive for a conference playoff spot with two must wins remaining in the regular season next week.

Oneonta (5-7/2-3) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead including an extra-man goal by junior Troy Lepore (Cortlandt/Hendrick Hudson) to begin things in the first quarter.

Oswego (2-10/1-4) bounced back with a pair of goals including a man-up score by junior Mike Brewster (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa).

After a Tyler Dunne (Cazenovia/Cazenovia) goal put Oneonta ahead 6-2, the lakers notched two straight including Brewster's second goal of the game to cut the Red Dragons' lead to 6-4. Oneonta closed the final six minutes of the second quarter with four unanswered goals including a pair by junior Dennis Headrick (Kings Park/Kings Park) to take a comfortable 10-4 lead at halftime.

Oneonta continued its dominance in the second half out scoring Oswego 9-5. Both Hilton and Harvey scored three of their four goals in the final two periods.

Lost in today's defeat was the 27 saves for Oswego sophomore Judd Robinson (Guilderland/Guilderland) in goal. Oneonta pelted the cage with 67 total shots, 46 of which were on goal.

Oneonta will travel to Plattsburgh this coming Wednesday for another SUNYAC contest beginning at 4:00 p.m. It's a must win for the Red Dragons if they want to participate in the SUNYAC tournament in two weeks. A loss will eliminate them from the playoff picture.
