Stevens Falls at No. 10 Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. (April 19, 2008) Senior midfielder/attacker Craig Lepiane (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied five points on three goals and two assists in leading the 10th-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at the Upper Terrace Field in Ithaca, N.Y. The victory moved the Bombers one step closer to securing the 2008 Empire 8 regular-season championship. Sophomore attacker Daniel Prakopcyk (Clinton, N.J.) scored three goals for the Ducks.

During the loss to the Bombers (12-2, 6-1 Empire 8), junior midfielder Alex Heckman (Sparta, N.J.) scored two goals. Sophomore midfielder Bobby Steinhauser (Boonton Township, N.J.) finished with a goal and an assist to go along with three faceoff wins and two ground balls. Freshman midfielder Ian Burgess (Glen Gardner, N.J.) also found the back of the net one time.

Freshman goalkeeper Dave Decker (Califon, N.J.) allowed 12 goals and made 16 saves in 54 minutes of action. Senior goalie Corey Vaillancourt (Lincoln Park, N.J.) played the final six minutes in net and made two saves while giving up one goal.

Ithaca received three goals apiece from senior attacker Matt Nelligan (Rowley, Mass.) and junior attacker Alec Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.). Freshman goalie David Gal (Amherst, Mass.) improved to 4-0 on the year as he made six saves and allowed just seven goals.

Trailing 2-0 just seven minutes into the game, Stevens (8-4, 6-2 Empire 8) scored its first goal when Prakopcyk ripped a shot past Gal off a pass from Steinhauser. The Bombers answered right back with a pair of goals to build a 4-1 lead. Burgess cut the deficit to 4-2 when he scored an unassisted goal with 9:06 left in the second quarter. Once again, Ithaca responded with three straight goals in the span of five minutes to go up 7-2 with 3:21 remaining. Heckman's goal late in the period sent the Ducks into the break trailing 7-3.

Down 9-4, Stevens scored two goals in the final four minutes of the third quarter including one by Prakopcyk with two seconds remaining to close to within 9-6 with 15 minutes to play. The Bombers halted the Ducks' momentum though as they out-scored Stevens 4-1 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

For the game, Ithaca owned the edge in shots (45-27), ground balls (31-22), and faceoffs (12-for-22). The Ducks were 14-for-16 (87.5 percent) in clearing attempts. Ithaca converted on 77.8 percent (14-for-18) of its clears.
