Connecticut College Falls to No. 18 Colby

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Nine different Colby College players scored as the Mules dominated in a 19-9 victory at Connecticut College Sunday afternoon. Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.) finished with four goals and one assist for the victors. First-year forward Anne Geraghty (Westford, Mass.) chipped in with four scores off the bench for the 18th ranked Mules.

With Sunday's victory, the Mules (8-5, 4-4) dramatically improve their chances to host a home playoff game in the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament. The Camels fall to 1-6 in league play and 6-7 overall.

Juniors Emily Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) and Paige Pascarelli (Wayne, Pa.) each contributed a pair of scores along with an assist for the Camels. Ashley Faber (Cohasset, Mass.) added two goals for Connecticut College.

Colby jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the early going but the Camels answered with three unanswered goals to even things up at six. Faber scored both of her goals during the stretch, accounting for the equalizer with 5:21 to play.

Colby's offense responded though and the visitors scored twice in a 25 second span at the end of the half to regain a three goal advantage. Cary Finnegan (West Hartford, Conn.) induced a turnover and assisted Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) to make it an 8-6 game with 1:13 remaining. Geraghty executed a nifty bounce shot with 48 seconds left and the Mules enjoyed a 9-6 lead at the break.

Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.) scored two of the first three goals in the second half and the Mules opened things up with five unanswered tallies over the opening 6:31 of play, building a comfortable 14-6 lead on their way to the 19-9 triumph.

Sarah Warnke (Lakeville, Conn.) had seven saves in the victory for Colby. Sophomore Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 18 stops for the Camels.

Colby will host Amherst College this Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in its regular season finale. The Camels will host Williams College for a critical conference tilt this Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
