Rensselaer Hangs on to Top Hamilton
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Devin Arnold '10 scored four goals and assisted on another to help lead visiting Rensselaer past Hamilton College, 11-8, in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 20.
PJ McComb '08 assisted on four goals and picked up six ground balls for Rensselaer (9-4, 3-2 Liberty). Josh Secora '09 scored twice and added one assist. Alex MacDiarmid '08 scored two goals. Paul Cerone '10 led all players with eight ground balls. Ryan DeJordy '10 earned the win in goal by making 15 saves.
Marc Albu '08 scored twice and added an assist for Hamilton (5-7, 0-4 Liberty). Kevin Coughlin '09 also scored twice. Frasher Kempe '08 had two assists. Karl Gruss '08 picked up five ground balls. Alex Lee '11 won 8 of 10 faceoffs. Christian Kunhardt '10 made 12 saves.
Arnold scored just 11 seconds into the game off an assist from McComb, and the Red Hawks never trailed. Arnold gave Rensselaer a 6-3 lead on an unassisted goal with only one second left in the first quarter. Rensselaer went 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities in the first half to take control of the game, 8-4, after two quarters.
The teams exchanged goals in the third quarter to move the score to 9-5. Arnold and MacDiarmid opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back unassisted goals to give Rensselaer its biggest lead at 11-5 with 9:54 left.
The Continentals made a late push in an attempt to force overtime. John-Henry Forster '08 scored off a Kempe assist with 9:05 left. Austin Deyo '09 scored with 7:56 remaining off another Kempe assist. Albu scored the game's final goal unassisted with 5:50 to play. Deyo has recorded at least one point in all 11 games he has played in this year.
Rensselaer leads the all-time series, 18-2.
