Saint Anselm Rolls Past Franklin Pierce
Manchester, N.H. (April 20) -- Nine different players found the back of the net for Saint Anselm as the Hawks defeated in-state rival Franklin Pierce by a 12-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play at Melucci Field on Sunday afternoon.
Behind two goals from Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.), the Hawks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Ravens got on the board on a goal from Lucas Hamory. Saint Anselm pushed the lead to 12-1 after three periods before the Ravens added three fourth-quarter goals for the 12-4 final score. Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass.), Surette and Tim Rist (S. Hadley, Mass.) led the Hawks with two goals each. Hamory was the FPU leading scorer with a pair of goals. Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made six saves for the win, Shea Campbell turned aside 10 shots in the defeat.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in league play, while Franklin Pierce drops to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is back in action when the team wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 26th as the Hawks host Pace for a 1:00 p.m. start at Melucci Field.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 20, 2008) – Saint Anselm College scored 12 of the first 13 goals of the game as the Hawks defeated the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team, 12-4, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Melucci Field.
Seniors Tim Rist (South Hadley, Mass./Milton) and Steve Trocki (Braintree, Mass./Boston College High) and junior Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) each notched two goals to lead a balanced Saint Anselm attack. Senior Mike McClain (Milton, Mass./Milton) scored once and added two assists for a game-high three points.
Sophomore Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton) was the Ravens' top scorer with two goals on the afternoon, while senior captain Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/Mount Blue) and freshman Jon Martinez (Waterbury Center, Vt./Rice Memorial) each netted one goal.
Trocki began the scoring 6:03 into the first quarter with a man-up goal, and Surette scored the only other goal of the quarter 2:20 later. The lead was 4-0 with 11:44 left in the second quarter when Hamory found the net off an assist by freshman Jack Scanlan (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North), but Saint Anselm outscored Franklin Pierce, 8-0, in the rest of the second quarter and through the third to take control of the game headed into the fourth quarter.
Franklin Pierce scored the only three goals of the final quarter, with Hamory, Ferreira and Martinez each recording one tally, but the Ravens could get no closer than eight.
Saint Anselm freshman Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) started in net for the Hawks and made six saves on seven shots for the win. Fellow freshman Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) stopped 10-of-22 shots for Franklin Pierce in three quarters of action.
Franklin Pierce (2-10, 1-7 NE-10) returns home for its final two games of the 2008 season, beginning on Saturday afternoon at noon against Assumption College. Saint Anselm (7-6, 5-4 NE-10) closes out its regular season schedule by hosting Pace University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
