Ritchie Sets Record as Bentley Defeats Franklin Pierce
WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior All-America Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover/North Andover HS) scored two goals and added three assists to become Bentley's all-time leading scorer in a 24-9 win over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday night at the Bentley lacrosse field. Ritchie ended the evening with 220 career points, besting the mark of 217 set last season by Kellyn Riccitelli.
Ritchie's first three points of the evening came on assists, tying the record when she set up sophomore Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington HS) with 2:04 to go in the first half and breaking the record when she sent a pass to freshman Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury/Duxbury HS) a minute later.
The Falcons clinched their third straight berth in the NE-10 Tournament with the win, improving to 5-4 in the conference and 6-8 overall, while the Ravens fell to 2-12 overall and remain winless after eight NE-10 games. Griffin led the Bentley offense with a career-best nine points off six goals and four assists. Senior Liz Goddard (Acton/Acton-Boxborough HS) added seven points, while classmate Bridget Fitzgerald (Winchester/Winchester HS) also posted a career high with five points and junior Kim Morris (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS) netted four goals.
Bentley opened the game with five straight goals in the first ten minutes and left little doubt about the outcome. Freshman Becca Woods (Duxbury/Duxbury HS) scored her first collegiate goal to open the scoring and Goddard struck to make it 5-0 before freshman Lauren Stille (North Quincy) broke through for Franklin Pierce with the first of her team-high five goals.
The Ravens showed their best form over a five-minute stretch late in the first half, scoring four unanswered goals to make it 9-5 with just under four minutes to go before halftime. Goddard broke the string with the eventual game-winning goal with 2:21 to go and three more Falcon tallies made it a 13-5 game at the break.
Freshman Melissa Bennett (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn HS) scored her first two career goals in the second and sophomore Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) made 17 saves in the game.
The Falcons are back in action on Thursday, traveling to West Haven, Conn., for a non-conference matchup with ninth-ranked New Haven at 4:00 p.m. The team's final home game of the season is on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against American International. Bentley's six seniors will be honored before the finale.
