No. 20 Union Gets by Hamilton in Liberty Contest

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Jon Miller '08 scored four goals to help lead nationally ranked No. 20 Union College past host Hamilton College, 12-8, in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 23.

Tom Simmons '08 scored two goals and assisted on three others for Union (10-3, 4-2 Liberty). Scott Garibaldi '10 scored once and added three assists. Chris Jacobson '10 scored two goals, including the game-winner with one second remaining in the third quarter, and added one assist. Matthew Douglas '09 had a goal and an assist. Christopher Keinath '09 made eight saves and collected three ground balls. Kevin Rautenstrauch '09 also scooped up three ground balls and went 8-for-12 in faceoffs.

Franke Holiber '10 tied a career high with four goals for Hamilton (5-8, 0-5 Liberty). Peter Gerrity '09 scored two goals. Max Akuamoah-Boateng '09 scored once and collected three ground balls. Alex Lee '11 went 5-for-9 in faceoffs. Billy Haas '10 won 5 of 10 draws. Eli Leino '10 made 11 saves.

Hamilton actually scored the game's first two goals and led, 4-2, at the end of the first quarter. Union scored the only two goals of the second quarter to tie it up.

The teams exchanged goals to start the second half, but Union ran off three unanswered goals for an 8-5 lead with 6:49 left in the third and never trailed again. Hamilton drew within 8-7 late in the third quarter with back-to-back tallies, but the Dutchmen responded with Jacobson's unassisted game-winner. Union outscored Hamilton in the fourth quarter, 3-1, to keep the Continentals at bay.

Both teams were efficient on man-up opportunities. Union went 3-for-5, while Hamilton went 3-for-6. The Dutchmen owned the edge in total shots, 39-33, and now lead the all-time series, 41-18.
