Manhattanville Falls to Widener in MAC Finale
CHESTER, Pa. – Junior Max Garofalo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) matched his season high with three goals, but the Manhattanville men's lacrosse team was defeated on the road by Widener 20-4 in the team's final Middle Atlantic Conference game of the season Saturday.
The Pride outshot Manhattanville 16-5 after one quarter of play, finding the back of the cage six times before Garofalo opened up the second quarter with an unassisted tally, beating Tim Collins to cut the Widener lead to 6-1.
Garofalo added another goal late in the second with Widener playing a man down when fellow Yorktown High School alum Vinny Menzenski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) fed Garofalo for the junior's second goal of the game. Garofalo completed the hat trick when Menzenski found him again in the third quarter for Garofalo's second man-up goal of the game.
Andrew McMillin (Garden City, N.Y.) tied Joey Hasbrouck (Wantagh, N.Y.) for the team lead in goals with his 21st of the season, late in the fourth quarter for Manhattanville's fourth goal.
Andrew Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and Nick Foote (Trumbull, Conn.) split time in net and combined for seven saves.
Despite the loss, Manhattanville reached eight wins this season for just the fourth time in program history and the first since the Valiants won 12 games in 1992.
The Valiants (8-7, 1-6 MAC) graduate just two seniors, active scoring leader Luke Dorfman (Freeport, N.Y.) and Rob Chambers (Suffern, N.Y.), and will look to challenge in the MAC in 2009.
