#2 Limestone Downs #8 Gannon to Win 16th in a Row
SHIRLEY, N.Y.-The No. 2-ranked Limestone College women's' lacrosse team defeated No. 8 Gannon 20-7 on Saturday afternoon at the Dowling College athletic complex. Limestone extends its win streak to 16 games with the victory (16-1 overall), as the Golden Knights slip to 9-4.
Limestone had a 12-5 lead at halftime and outscored Gannon 8-2 in the second period. Limestone had the advantage on shots (31-22) and ground balls (24-11), but the Golden Knights had the edge on draw controls (15-14).
The Lady Saints had 11 players score in the win. Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), and Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) each had three goals. Chrissy Grogg (Taberg, N.Y.) and Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) had two assists each.
Goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) led Limestone with four caused turnovers and recorded six saves. Michaela Reynolds (Columbia, Md.) posted two saves as she closed out the last eight minutes of the contest in goal. Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) and Terri George (Jordan, N.Y.) each had three draw controls.
Colleen Dixon (LaFayette, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick for Gannon, as Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va.) added two goals. Dana Rousseau (Easton, Md.) led her team with two assists.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) had seven saves. Dixon also had four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y.) had three draw controls.
The Lady Saints will play Seton Hill on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Long Island, N.Y., at the C.W. Post campus.

OAKDALE, N.Y. - Second-ranked Limestone (S.C.) used a 6-0 run in the first half to take control and finished the contest with seven consecutive goals en route to a 20-7 victory over eighth-ranked Gannon Saturday afternoon in a women's lacrosse match played on a neutral field at Dowling (N.Y.) College.
Gannon initially took a 2-1 lead after back-to-back goals from Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) in the opening five minutes. However, Limestone responded with six consecutive goals to grab a 7-2 lead with 17:33 remaining in the first half. The Lady Saints also ended the half with five of the last seven goals and took a 12-5 advantage into the intermission.
As it did in the first half, Gannon tallied two of the first three goals of the final 30 minutes to cut the deficit to 13-7. Again, Limestone answered with the final seven goals of the match and posted a 20-7 victory. The Lady Saints held the Lady Knights without a goal for the final 17 minutes and 58 seconds.
Dixon led the Gannon attack with three goals. Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) added two goals. Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) completed the scoring one goal each.
Dana Rousseau (Easton, Md./Easton) led the passers with two assists. Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) recorded seven saves in goal.
Gannon saw its three-match win streak snapped while dropping to 9-4. Limestone improved to 16-1. The Lady Knights conclude their road schedule Sunday, April 27 at Molloy (N.Y.). Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
