Ohio Wesleyan Downs Washington & Jefferson
DELAWARE, Ohio -- Nick Gallagher led 11 different Battling Bishop scorers with five goals as Ohio Wesleyan scored at least four times in each quarter and defeated Washington & Jefferson, 21-4, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
The Battling Bishops (9-5) held a 52-19 shot advantage and collected 43 grounds balls to W&J's 20. OWU also scored on 4-of-9 extra-man opportunities.
The Presidents (3-9) trailed 5-2 after a goal by senior midfielder John Foran (Annandale, N.J./Rutgers Prep) early in the second quarter, but OWU fired in six consecutive goals to close the half with an 11-2 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan tacked on 10 goals in the second half, while holding the Presidents to a pair.
Rob Young added four goals for the Battling Bishops, while four others contributes two goals. Ryan Perone was the winning goaltender after making four saves in 37 minutes of action.
Foran led the Presidents with two goals, while sophomores midfielder T.J. Mollica (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and attacker Matt Burns (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) both netted one goal.
Freshman goalie Quinton Thorne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) amassed 10 saves in the setback.
Washington & Jefferson looks to snap its seven-game losing streak on Wednesday when hosting Mount St. Joseph at 3:30 pm at Alexandre Stadium.
