Dowling Stomps Rams in ECC Play

Brookhaven, NY - Melanie Burgos (Coram, NY) had a career high 7 points (4g, 3a) as Dowling defeated Philadelphia University 15-9 in ECC play. Dowling improves to 9-5 (3-3) as Philadelphia drops to 11-4 (2-3).

Dowling came off the bus hot, scoring the first 9 goals of the game. Burgos had 6 of her 7 points in the run, scoring the first 2:21 into the game and capping the run depositing a feed from Vanessa Moreira (Selden, NY) at the 7:41 mark. Going into halftime, Dowling led 11-3.

Dowling kept the intensity up in the second half with a three goal run led by the stick of Kelly Cefalu (East Islip, NY) who ripped two goals. Philadelphia mounted a comeback in the second half, closing out the game outscoring Dowling 6-1 with 32 shots but Rachael Goldstein (Ridge, NY) was huge for the Golden Lions, preserving the lead stopping 12 ram shots, a career high 17 for the game.

Cefalu finished with 4 goals and an assist and Stephanie Cotter (Ridge, NY) had 3 goals and an assist and Cassandra Cronin (Islip Terrace, NY) had 4 goals for the Golden Lions.

Dowling returns to action Saturday, May 10, participating in the ECAC tournament. Game times to be determined.
