Brockport Upends Buffalo State in SUNYAC Semifinal

The Golden Eagles improved their record to 12-3 on the season and face Cortland in the finals for only the third time overall but the second year in a row. Buffalo St. fell to 9-4 with the setback.

Senior Julia Decker (Penn Yan) led Brockport with four goals and three assists. Junior Kim Morris (Clay/Cicero-North Syracuse) had three goals and two assists, senior Kim Winslow (Auburn) and junior Kath Villa (Albany/Shaker) each scored three goals, senior Carrie Kane (Rochester/Irondequoit) added two goals and three assists and sophomore Lexie Goodhart (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) recorded two goals and two assists. Freshman goalie Jamie Kaminsky (Oakdale/Sayville) made eight saves.

Sophomore Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) led all players with five goals to raise her season total to 53 for the Bengals. Sophomore Stephanie Georgopoulos (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) tallied four goals, sophomore Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) contributed a goal and three assists and senior Katie Lyons (Williamsville/ Williamsville North) registered two assists. Freshman goalie Ashley O'Brien (Lima/Honeoye Falls-Lima) stopped 14 shots.

The Golden Eagles never trailed in the game, opening up a 3-0 lead 3:30 into the contest. Henderson responded, however, with two straight to cut the lead to 3-2. Brockport pushed its advantage to 5-2, but the Bengals pulled to within 6-4 with 10:43 remaining in the opening 30 minutes. Brockport took the momentum into the half as Decker and Winslow closed out the half with goals to make it an 8-4 game.

The Golden Eagles scored the first four goals of the second half for a 12-4 lead, but Buffalo St. continued to rally, getting to within 13-8 with 17:46 left. After Villa scored two in a row for the Golden Eagles, the Bengals found the back of the net three straight times and trailed 15-11 with 9:46 on the clock. Brockport protected the ball for much of the remaining time and held on for the 17-12 victory.
