No. 4 Hamilton Tops No. 9 Colby in NCAA Regional
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Nicole Tetreault '08 scored four goals and Kate Fowler '10 made a career-high 12 saves to help lead nationally ranked No. 4 Hamilton College past visiting Colby College, 13-6, in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse championships at Campus Road Athletic Field on May 10.
Kaillie Briscoe '09 scored two goals and added three assists for Hamilton (18-1 overall). Liz Rave '10 scored three goals. Sarah Bray '11 scored twice and caused two turnovers. Allie Shpall '09 scooped up a game-high four ground balls. Hilary Saverin '10 collected a game-high three draw controls and scored a goal. Briscoe now has 99 points this season, which extends the program record broken earlier this year. Tetreault's 176 career points are tied for fifth-most in program history.
Kate Sheridan '09 and Becky Julian '09 led nationally ranked No. 9 Colby (13-6 overall) with two goals each. Jamie Enos '08 caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Caroline Duke '10 also collected three ground balls. Lexi Crook '11 registered two draw controls. Sarah Warnke '11 made nine saves.
Colby actually notched the game's first goal when Julian scored on a free position shot with 25 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the first half. Hamilton responded with six unanswered goals, starting with Rave's tally with 23:36 left and ending with a Bray score with 19:11 remaining.
Sheridan and Kathleen Kramer '10 then scored back-to-back goals for the Mules with 17:32 and 8:58 left, respectively, to put the game at 6-3 after one half.
The Continentals scored the first seven goals of the second half though to put the game away. Fowler made nine of her 12 saves in the second to help keep Colby at bay. The Mules scored three goals in the last 2:58 to provide the final margin.
Hamilton leads the all-time series, 3-0. This was the two schools' first meeting since 1993. The Continentals have won 21 in a row at home and 16 straight overall. They play the winner of Gettysburg College and Middlebury College at 1:00 p.m. on May 11. Gettysburg and Middlebury play at 2:30 p.m. on May 10.

CLINTON, N.Y. --- One of the best seasons in program history came to an end Saturday when the ninth-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team fell 13-6 to fourth-ranked Hamilton College in an NCAA Division III Tournament regional semifinal.
Colby, the New England Small College Athletic Conference champs, finishes the season at 13-6. Hamilton will play an NCAA quarterfinal game at home Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against either Middlebury College or Gettysburg College.
Becky Julian scored 4:25 into the first half on a free position shot to give the Mules a 1-0 lead. Julian, a first team All-NESCAC selection, finished with a pair of goals and ended the season with 49 goals and 21 assists for 70 points. The junior attacker heads into her final season next year with 93 goals and 32 assists for 125 points.
Hamilton (18-1) scored the next six goals to take command. The run started with Liz Rave's tally with 23:36 left and ended with a Sarah Bray score with 19:11 remaining.
Colby did fight back and made it 6-3 at halftime on goals by All-American Kate Sheridan and Kathleen Kramer. Sheridan, who had two goals, finished her record-breaking season with 58 goals and 33 assists for 91 points. The point and goal totals are both school records and she led the NESCAC in scoring. Sheridan, a junior midfielder and the NESCAC Player of the Year this season, has 147 goals and 62 assists for 209 career points in just 54 games.
