Purdie Adds Josh Blumenthal to Adelphi Coaching Staff
Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Gordon Purdie announced the addition of Josh Blumenthal to the coaching staff. Blumenthal will assist with both the Panthers recruiting and coaching efforts.
"It is a great honor to have a former player join me on the sidelines at Adelphi University," Purdie said. "Having known coach Blumenthal as a student, player and even an opponent for nearly two decades, coupled with his knowledge of the game and successful tenure in Miami and on the international level, makes him a truly great addition to our staff."
A 2003 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Blumenthal gained valuable coaching experience last summer as the Associate Head Coach and offensive coordinator of the U-19 Bermuda National Team. He helped coach the team to a second place tie in the red division at the World Lacrosse Championships in British Columbia, Canada.
In addition, Blumenthal has coached at the Palmer Trinity School in Miami, Florida, producing six All-State players, four senior athletes of the year and a county MVP and an Academic All-American. He was also named Miami-Dade County Coach of the Year in 2006 and guided the Palmer Trinity School to a top-10 South Florida ranking in three of his four seasons at the helm. Blumenthal's squad was also awarded South Florida's Babcock Cup, which is given to honor a team's sportsmanship.
As a player, Blumenthal earned a Pioneer League Championship at the University of Rhode Island and made a USLIA National Championship appearance in 2001. He was also a two-time NYMLA all-league selection while at the Waldrof School, where he was coached by Purdie.
