Colgate Lacrosse Names Team Captains for 2009
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.), Molly Carroll (Swarthmore, Pa.), and Nancy Clayton (New Canaan, Conn.) will serve as tri-captains for the upcoming 2009 Colgate women's lacrosse season, it was announced by head coach Heather Bliss.
"We are very pleased with the three seniors that were chosen to lead the team this year," said Bliss, who will begin her third year at the helm of the program. "All three are experienced players who know what it takes to succeed and who are eager to pilot the team to a second-consecutive Patriot League title. Molly, Nancy, and Ashley are well-respected by both teammates and coaches for both their standout field play and the leadership qualities they exude on the Colgate campus."
Didio, who served as a tri-captain in 2008, made 17 starts and posted 45 points on 33 goals and 12 assists. She ranked in a tie for third on the squad in points.
Carroll netted 28 goals and dished out five assists for 33 points in 21 games. As a junior, she was named the league's defensive player of the week three times; was honored as a first team all-league honoree, and helped the Raiders gain a berth in the NCAA Tournament by being chosen as the Patriot League Tournament MVP.
Clayton started all 21 games for Colgate as a defensive midfielder. As a junior, she was named as the league's defensive player of the week once, and tallied five points, including three goals.
Colgate will open the 2009 season at home, February 14 as it hosts Stony Brook.
