Adelphi Lacrosse Announces 2009 Schedule, Captains

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University men's lacrosse coach Gordon Purdie announced the Panther's 2009 schedule and team captains on Thursday, November 6. Adelphi will celebrate the sixty-first season of intercollegiate men's lacrosse when they open their 12-game slate on Friday, February 20 at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida.

Seniors Edward Ege and Ryan Kelly have been named the 2009 team captains. Ege, a 2008 USILA First-Team All-America and the ECC Player of the Year, also led the nation in points per game and assists per game. Kelly is in his fourth year with the program and has been a two-year starter as well as an all-conference selection in 2008.

Following its season opener against the Lions, the Panthers will face-off against the University of Central Florida (MCLA) before returning home to Long Island to host the first of five home contests on Competition Field against the Rochester Institute of Technology on February 27.

"With a competitive schedule, great senior leadership and a brand new Field, the sixty-first edition of Panthers men's lacrosse squad looks to be an exciting one for all involved," Purdie said.

The Panthers will open the East Coast Conference portion of its schedule when they welcome Mercyhurst College on Saturday, March 21st. Adelphi will also host conference games against Molloy College and C. W. Post College, while traveling to Dominican College, Dowling College and defending Division II national champion New York Institute of Technology.

The non-conference portion of their schedule includes tilts against Bentley College, Saint Anselm College, and Merrimack College.
