Michael Piegare, Jr., a 21-year-old defenseman on the Pace University lacrosse team, died this weekend when a Nissan Pathfinder rolled over as he drove east on I-287. Piegare, from Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island, is the brother of North Carolina defenseman Kevin.

It was with a saddened and humbled heart that I deliver the following news. As many of you may already know, Kevin Piegare lost his older brother, Michael Piegare, this past weekend in a tragic car accident. Kevin is a Sophomore defensemen for us, and we want to send our deepest sympathy to the entire Piegare family. Through tough times like this, the strength of the Carolina Lacrosse Family is tested. We ask all Alumni, Family, and Friends of the Carolina Lacrosse Family to show their love and support for the Piegare family in their time of great need. This is a huge loss for the entire lacrosse community as Kevin's older brother Michael was a lacrosse player at Pace University.

Viewings will be held tomorrow, Tuesday the 25th from 2-9:00 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home at 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday the 26th at 9:45 AM. The service will be at St. Patrick's located at 400 Main St., Huntington, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the Piegare family will be setting up some type of scholarship in Mike's honor at both Cold Spring Harbor as well as Pace University. No specific details are available at this point, we will have more information over the next few weeks. The Carolina Lacrosse Family offers their deepest condolences to the Piegare family. We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this extremely trying time.
