Canisius Lacrosse Adds Four Recruits for 2010
Canisius College women's lacrosse head coach Scott Teeter announced the addition of four players to the 2010 team. Abbie Gowen (Amherst, N.Y.), Gina Molfetta (Carmel, N.Y.), Lindsey Morgan (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Katie Palasz (Granby, Mass.) will all join the Griffs beginning next season.
"We are very excited to bring in such a talented class," Teeter said. "They will all be key elements to help us in reaching our goal of a MAAC Championship."
Gowen has earned three letters at attack at Amherst Central High School. She has totaled 200 assists in the past two seasons, setting the New York State record with 101 helpers during the 2008 campaign. A two-time All-ECIC First Team and Team MVP selection, Gowen also set the school record with 163 points last season.
"Abbie was a great feeder in high school," Teeter said. "She rewrote the state record book for assists and we look forward to her continuing that trend here at Canisius."
Molfetta is three-year letterwinner at Mahopac High School. The goaltender was a member of the Empire State Team from 2006 to 2008 and picked up all-section honors in 2008. Molfetta also earned two letters as a defender with the field hockey team.
"Gina is a very talented goalie and she will give us the best 1-2 tandem in the MAAC," Teeter said.
Morgan played four seasons at Lancaster High School, receiving honorable mention All-America honors in 2008. During her career, Morgan has accumulated 113 goals, 44 assists, 331 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers, earning All-Western New York and first-team All-ECIC honors twice.
"Lindsey is a tenacious two-way midfielder that will contribute to both ends of the field right away," Teeter said.
Palasz is a four-year member of the lacrosse team at Williston. In 2008, she served as team captain and recorded 61 goals and 25 assists while leading the Wildcats to an undefeated season. The Team MVP, Palasz was named a NEPSWLA All-Star during her junior campaign.
"Katie has all the tools to be one of the league's best offensive threats," Teeter said. "She has a great shot that will score a lot of goals for the blue and gold."
The Griffs return 16 letterwinners and nine starters from the 2008 team that earned an invitation to the MAAC Championship for the second time in school history.
