Quinnipiac Lacrosse Announces Nine NLI Signings
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse Head Coach Danie Caro has announced the signing of nine players to National Letters of Intent for the 2010 season. Four attackers, three midfielders and two defenders signed on to play for the Bobcats next season. Emily Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.), Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.), Chelsea Guerrera (Wantagh, N.Y.), Kayla Hamberry (Edgewater, Md.), Jackie Keleher (Manlius, N.Y.), Mary Kate Manganiello (Media, Pa.), Emily Mason (Fairfield, Conn.), Dianna Milano (Lansdale, Pa.) and Lianne Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) all will be coming to Quinnipiac next fall.
"We are really excited about the group of incoming players we've assembled," said Caro. "We are graduating eight seniors this spring, so our incoming class will have some big shoes to fill, but I'm confident they will be up to the challenge. Every single one of them will add something to the team and we're looking forward to helping them to continue their development as student-athletes at Quinnipiac University."
Emily Allen is an attacker from Glastonbury High School. Last season, she was named to the all-conference First Team after scoring 32 goals and adding 19 assists. As team captain, she helped lead her team to a 14-3-1 record and a share of the Central Connecticut Conference Championship and a berth in the State Quarterfinals. During her sophomore season, Allen recorded 37 goals and nine assists en route to a 13-6 record.
"Emily has a great presence on the field and she is a hard worker," said Caro. "She does a lot of the little things that go unnoticed by fans, but that every coach appreciates."
Sarah Allen is also an attacker from Glastonbury High School. During her junior season, she was named an US Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention after scoring 64 goals and recording 34 assists. Allen was part of the team that went 14-3-1 and claimed a share of the Central Connecticut Conference Championship and a berth in the State Quarterfinals. She and twin sister, Emily, are both members of the CTLF Club Lacrosse team.
Caro said of Allen, "Sarah is a hustler who has a knack for finding the goal. I expect her to continue to develop in her final high school season and be able to come in and contribute on the field immediately."
Guerrera is a midfielder at Wantagh High School. In her junior season, she was part of a team that posted an 11-6-1 record and finished as Nassau County Finalists. Her 18 goals and 10 assists garnered All-Nassau County Honorable Mention honors. Guerrera is an Honor Roll student who participates in community events like Breast Cancer Walk, Walk for Autism and Walk for Spinal Victory. She also is a member of the Long Island Yellow Jackets Club Lacrosse team.
"Chelsea has solid fundamentals and is equally able to contribute on offense and defense," said Caro. We expect her to be a consistent contributor for us next year, both on and off the field."
Hamberry comes to Quinnipiac from St. Mary's High School and will play attack for the Bobcats in 2010. She did not play during her junior season, but received Honorable Mention recognition as a Maryland Distinguished Scholar and is an Honor Roll student. Most recently, Hamberry was a member of the M&D Lacrosse Club team and is a two-year letterwinner in volleyball, serving as team captain this past season.
Coach Caro said of Hamberry, "Kayla has great size for a low attacker, and we expect her to continue to develop as a feeder. She is a threat to pass or shoot any time she has the ball, and we look forward to watching her continue to improve her skills."
