Will Yeatman Apparently Set to Transfer to Maryland
A story at ESPN.com reinforces recent speculation that Will Yeatman will transfer from Notre Dame to Maryland and play lacrosse for the Terps this spring. Yeatman, who played both lacrosse and football for the Fighting Irish, will not be able to join Maryland's football team until the 2010 season.
Because of an arrest last January for driving while intoxicated, Yeatman missed the entire 2008 lacrosse season. Another alcohol incident this past September led to his suspension from the football team.
Yeatman was granted a release from Notre Dame, and initial reports indicated that he hoped to transfer to North Carolina. However, because the Tar Heels will play the Irish in lacrosse this spring, Notre Dame apparently would not consent to a waiver that would enable him to play lacrosse there in 2009.
Maryland received a #3 preseason ranking from Lacrosse Magazine, and Yeatman would join a young but already very strong group of attackers, who scored 100 points for the Terps last season.
Yeatman, a two-time high school All-American from San Diego, California (Rancho Bernardo), was an extremely promising player on attack for the Fighting Irish. In his freshman season in 2007, he scored 46 points on 21 goals and 25 assists, was a first-team all-GWLL selection, earned honorable mention as a USILA All-American, and was named LaxPower's Rookie of the Year in fan voting. See the Notre Dame web site for more information.
