Dallas Lacrosse Supporting Troops

The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team has recently adopted the 10th Transportation Company, a unit in the middle of their deployment to Kuwait involved in missions taking them all throughout Iraq. "The team really cherishes being able to directly interact with and support the men and women serving our country in our ongoing wars" head coach Will Oakley stated.

Americans Supporting Americans is an organization that pairs military units with sponsor groups and organizations, and the lacrosse community has a particularly proud history of being involved with more than 60 Universities and programs having adopted units throughout the world.

Oakley continued saying "this is a program that hits particularly close to me, as a few of my college teammates from Georgia Tech are or have been deployed recently: Justin Gomes, an Army Ranger, Bryant Jarrell, an Air Force pilot, and Brady Broich, a Navy helicopter pilot. With all that is going on in our country, we seem to too easily forget that we're still fighting two wars, going on more than seven years in Afghanistan and nearly six years in Iraq.

These men and women deserve more recognition for and help with all the burdens they shoulder. We felt this was the least we could do to directly help out our troops and we are honored to be involved. The captains and the team jumped at the chance when I mentioned this as a possible project. We have been in touch with our unit and are sending some food and items from home they might not have access to, and we wish them the very best and safe travels as they continue their deployment."
