No. 3 C.W. Post Coasts by Catawba in Indians' Opener

SALISBURY, NC -- Dave Loftis (Merrick, NY) and Matt Dimler (Long Valley, NJ) each scored three goals to lead third-ranked C.W. Post to an 18-5 win over host Catawba in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Pioneers improve to 2-0, while the Catawba Indians fall in their opener.

C.W. Post took the lead for good on a Loftus goal just 20 seconds before the end of the first quarter. The goal broke a 3-3 tie and led to nine unanswered for tallies for the Pioneers, who led 11-3 at the half.

Eddie Plompen (West Islip, NY) had two goals and two assists for C.W. Post, while Keith Rodriguez (Courtlandt Manor, NY) and Joe Meo (West Sayville, NY) also scored twice. Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) had a pair of goals for Catawba and Sean Duggan (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh HS) had a goal and an assist.

C.W. Post held a 49-18 edge in shots with Catawba committing 40 turnovers. Mike Cama (Levittown, NY) had six ground balls and won 13-of-16 face-offs for the Pioneers.

SALISBURY, N.C. (Feb. 17, 2009) – Senior attackers Dave Loftus (Merrick, N.Y.) and Matt Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.) each scored three goals as C.W. Post claimed an 18-5 win over Catawba College in men's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 2-0 on the season while spoiling Catawba's season opener.

C.W. Post outshot Catawba by a 49-18 margin and held a 43-33 advantage in ground balls. The Pioneers score the game's first goal nearly five minutes into the first quarter. Catawba matched that with a goal from midfielder Sean Duggan at 4:55.

Loftus scored his second goal of the game with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter that put the Pioneers up 4-3 and gave them the lead for the remainder of the game as the visitors scored nine answered goals to break open the game.

Freshman attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied two goals and two assists while junior midfielder Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) scored two goals.

Defensively, senior defender Jon Kology (West Babylon, N.Y.) and junior defender Richard Schmidt (Hicksville, N.Y.) each caused three turnovers for the Pioneers.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel Sciulla (Merrick, N.Y.) made six stops in goal to improve his record to 2-0.

Sophomore attacker Marty Tyohy led the Indians with two goals. Senior goalkeeper Brad Ross made eight saves in net.

C.W. Post is back in action Feb. 28 when it hosts Northeast-10 foe Assumption College at 1:00 p.m.
