Greensboro Defeats Lees-McRae in Opener
Greensboro, NC -- Nick Patrone (Supply, NC/Apex) scored four goals and Greensboro College outscored Lees McRae 4-0 in the fourth period as The Pride defeated Lees McRae, 10-5, on Thursday at the Smith Turf Fields. Bryan Mercer (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) added one goal and two assists for GC.
Game stats
The game was tied after the first quarter (1-1) and at halftime (4-4). In the third quarter Patrone notched his third goal at the 10:46 mark. Brian Bishop (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) (one goal, one assist) fed Mercer on man-up goal a with 3:59 remaining. LMC's Danny Ives recorded the visitors last score with 1:34 left in the period.
Greensboro had another power play goal in the final frame and was 2-13 on extra man opportunities. LMC was 0-5. Leading 6-5 heading to the final 15 minutes, The Pride recorded four goals on five shots and held LMC scoreless in the final quarter.
GC had 35 shots to 18 for the Bobcats. Winning goalkeeper Mike Foderaro (Sailisbury, MD/Parkside) had six saves and counterpart Andy Nesdill stopped 11 Pride shots. Neil Sleight had one goal and one assist for the Bobcats.
The Pride improved to 1-0 and Less McRae is 0-1. Greensboro next plays at Roanoke on Wednesday on Feb. 25.
