Jed Gardner finished a Michael Brown feed to help Belmont Abbey upset fifth ranked Limestone in overtime, 9-8. Limestone falls to 0-1 overall (0-1 Conference Carolinas), while Belmont Abbey improves to 1-1 (1-0) Conference Carolinas).

Limestone opened the scoring on a Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.) goal with a Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) assist. Brian Patridge (Columbus, Ohio) would take the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal 45 seconds later. Belmont Abbey would get on the scoreboard off a broken Limestone clear, leading to a Michael Brown goal that would begin a five goal swing for the Crusaders.

The Saints would break up the Abbey streak with a second unassisted goal by Patridge bringing the score to 5-3. However, the Crusaders would take a 7-3 lead into the half after goals from James Regan and Brown.

Limestone would make a stand in the second half, only allowing one goal in regulation. With a Crusader lead of 8-3, Limestone would score five straight goals to tie the game. Patridge tallied his third and fourth goals to rally the Saints to an 8-5 deficit heading into the fourth quarter. Brendan Storrier (Lafayette, N.Y.) would assist on goals to Randy Waugh (Severna Park, Md.) and Langan to bring the Saints within one. With 5:39 left in the game, Langan would finish an Eric Turner (Dublin, Ohio) feed to knot the game at 8-8.

James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded 9 saves, including two one-on-one saves to maintain the Limestone comeback effort.

Limestone returns to Saints Field on Wednesday afternoon for another Conference Carolinas opponent in Queens University. Belmont Abbey will host Mars Hill on Saturday.
