Mars Hill Sweeps Deep South Weekly Awards
Wingate, N.C.---The Mars Hill College Lions swept the weekly Deep South Conference Awards in the first week of voting, league officials announced Monday. Mars Hill junior attack Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is this week's Offensive Player of the Week. Senior goalkeeper Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman defender Chris Cudmore (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) was selected Freshman of the Week.
An All-DSC selection last year, Farmer led MHC to a 17-12 victory in the Lions' season opener at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. He scored six goals on 12 shots with a .500 shot percentage and a .583 shot on goal percentage.
A 2008 All-DSC selection, Sigona recorded 13 saves with a .520 save percentage in the 17-12 victory. He was part of a man-down unit that posted a 94 percent penalty killing ratio.
Cudmore joined Sigona as a part of the man-down unit that posted a 94 percent penalty killing ratio. He added three ground balls and caused three turnovers in Mars Hill's victory.
