Lafayette Tops Seahawks in Men's Lacrosse Action
Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-4 decision to Lafayette at brisk Wagner College Stadium this afternoon. With the win, the Seahawks fell to 0-2 on the season, while the Leopards improved to 1-1.
Tom Perini scored three of his six goals in the first period as Lafayette jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Wagner freshman attack Marcus Janda (Schecksvile, PA / Parkland) notched the first goal of his young career with 12:11 left in the opening half. Leading 6-1 at halftime, the Leopards scored the first five goals of the second half to build a commanding 11-1 lead.
Sophomore attack Will Macumber (Manorville, NY / Eastport South Manor), freshman midfielder John Hird (Phoenixville, PA/ Shipley School) and senior attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI / Novi) added goals for the Seahawks while senior midfielder Brian Poissant (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) had an assist.
In addition to Perini's six goals, Matt Mersky, John Galassi, Colin Sterling and Chris Ahern added two goals apiece for the Leopards. Lafayette out-shot Wagner 45-19 and held a 39-26 edge in ground balls.
Freshman Peter Rubin (East Rockaway, NY/ East Rockaway) had 15 saves in goal for Wagner while Jeff Canfield took the win in goal for Lafayette, recording six saves.
The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Smithfield, RI to meet Bryant in a 1:00 pm face-off.
