No. 10 Limestone Rebounds to Defeat Queens

Brendan Storrier (Lafayette, N.Y.) exploded for 5 goals and Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) added 4 goals and 1 assist to help power Limestone over Queens, 14-8, in men's lacrosse action. The Saints improve to 1-1 overall (1-1 Conference Carolinas), while Queens suffers its first loss, falling to 1-1 (1-1 Conference Carolinas).

Poerstel opened the scoring for both teams in the first minute off an assist from Randy Waugh (Severna Park, Md.). The Saints would score 35 seconds later when James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) made a save and quickly sent the ball up field to Sam Buppert (Eldersburg, Md.). Buppert would hit Storrier for his first goal to give Limestone a 2-0 advantage.

Queens B.J. Leighton would put Queens on the board off a Limestone turnover to bring the game to 2-1. Limestone, however, would get two more goals from Storrier, a pair from Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.), and an extra man goal by Brian Patridge (Columbus, Ohio) to jump out to a 7-1 lead. Queens would close the period with a goal from Louie Boyle, bringing the score to 7-2.

The Royals offense was methodical in the second quarter, using long possessions to grind the score to 7-4 on goals from Leighton and Brian Rose. Storrier would add his fourth goal at 2:26 to end the half 8-4 in favor of the Saints.

Langan and Eric Turner (Dublin, Ohio) helped Limestone jump out in the second half and Poerstel would follow with an unassisted goal to push the Saints lead to 10-4. Queens responded with two goals of their own before Storrier finished his fifth goal off a Rob Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) assist. Ryan Stansley would score for the Royals to bring the third quarter to a close at 11-7.

Limestone closed the game out with a goal from Langan and two from Poerstel. Queens' last goal was scored by Boyle to close out the scoring with a 14-8 final. Tuohy made 18 saves on 32 shots and the Saints went 16-26 at the face off X.

Limestone returns to Saints Field on Saturday, where they will host Wheeling Jesuit at 1:00 p.m. Queens will follow the Saints and host Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday, March 1 at 12:00 p.m.

GAFFNEY, S.C.- No. 10 Limestone College edged Queens University of Charlotte in men's lacrosse action 14-8.

The Saints (1-1/1-1 CC) used a seven goal first quarter to pick up the win over the Royals (1-1/1-1 CC). Queens gave up two goals to start the game when B.J. Leighton (Apex, NC, Apex) put Queens on the board four minutes into play. Limestone scored five more goals, one in a man-up opportunity, before Queens closed the quarter with a goal from Louie Boyle (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air).

The Royals offense was methodical in the second quarter, using long possessions to grind the score to 7-4 on goals from Leighton and Brian Rose (Stony Point, N.Y., North Rockland). The Royals defense held Limestone to seven shots in the 15 minute period, the lowest of all four quarters, while the offense was able to take nine. Just before the half ended Limestone put one more on the board to take an 8-4 lead midway through.

Limestone used an offensive push to score two quickly in the third, but Queens used man-advantage opportunity to score. Stephan LeBlanc (Restoule, Ontario, Highland) tallied his only goal of the game with the help of Cory Thomas (Columbia, Md., River Hill). Twenty three seconds later Leighton scored his third goal, unassisted. Each team scored one more before the quarter ended.

Queens racked up the shots in the fourth quarter, 11 for the most in a period, but they were only able to get one past James Tuohy. Limestone scored three on eight shots, giving them the 14-8 win.
